Beethovenfest 2006
Aug. 31st – Oct. 1st
A joint project of the Video/Interactive Dramaturgies+Scenography, at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and the Bonn International Beethoven Festival
Is it possible to meaningfully translate classical music by way of audiovisual media?
Can one create a media-friendly approach away from trusted means such as the concert hall, stage and films about musicians as well as filmed landscapes? An approach which will be able to attract new audiences? The visualization of music is a common subject in fine arts, whilst, in music, the embodiment of visual impressions as well as imagery is one of the elements of composition. This constitutes a formidable synthesis between aspects of very different esthetical concepts.
"Roll_over_Beethoven" has been developed and is directed by Prof. Heide Hagebölling and Frank Horlitz in cooperation with Ilona Schmiel, director of the Beethoven Festival. It offers a platform for experimentation and creative exploration in the fields of media design and art. Off the beaten track, a group of young designers and artists encourage “Blue Sky Thinking”. The result is multimedia installations presented in the Beethovenhalle Bonn, video clips/Classic Clips for projection and TV and live performances such as "Classic VJing", the visual part of Martin Grubinger’s „percussive planet“, T-Mobile Forum Bonn.
